Hello everyone! Since my last post a lot has happened. Everything closed, we didn't go anywhere for a month, and school became "Distance Learning". That is what i am here to talk about....."Distance Learning".....B*ll Sh&t!!
The new coined term "Distance Learning" has become something of a hot topic for me. It's not just about the fact that it's total complete crap, but also the the total complete crap that comes with it. Have you ever home schooled your children? I didn't think so. We choose to send our lovely little brats to school so that we could get some quiet time. At least that is reason i sent mine to school(lol). I was so close to having all three of my creatures..I mean children in school full time. Which would have let me get a job, or just go get a mani pedi because lord knows I don't have time for that crap right now. Who does right? O thats right it's all CLOSED! Anyway over the last 2 almost 3 months Distance learning has been shoved down my throat. Which had me rushing to get a new family computer so we could keep up with "school." Then it was we needed paper, a hole punch, a computer mouse or two. Which then led me to organizing Google Meetings for both my older girls, and then printing off massive amounts of math work books, and writing workbooks. I suddenly was forced to become something i am NOT qualified to do. I become a teacher. I then realized I can't spell worth a crap, and had forgotten almost everything they taught(i had to ask siri how to spell taught) me in school. How in the H*ll am I suppose to teach my children everything they are meant to be learning, when I don't even remember half of it myself? I get that teachers are trying they're best to help and give me resources. It's just not the same has having a trained teacher who knows what they are doing. Distance Learning is just not something that can be done when children are in elementary school. Kids need so much more than what distance learning can provide. They need to learn how to socialize, how to play with other kids, they need to learn rules for some where other than at home. Let me give you and example of why distance learning for elementary doesn't work.
In our house everyday at around 10am I start figuring out what we are suppose to be doing for the day. Which includes me going online with my 11 year old and scanning her google class rooms for new assignments. When we are done that I figure out what she will do in the morning, and then what she will work on in the afternoon. To be quite frank, she gets one thing done a day. While she is working on her stuff I have to then shift to grade 3, and work with my 9 year old on writing and math. I then switch to my kindergartener who has a letter to learn, and a number to learn. To sum up our day we get half in not 1/4 of the work done. Usually because I am fighting with my 9 year old who doesn't want to do it. Or because my 5 year old has started crying with frustration and telling me "Mommy i like real school better." All my kids have said that to me at one point or another. Tell me how is this school, or distance learning working for you? Because it's a total disaster in my house. We have cried so many times that some days we just give up. It's too heart braking to listen my children cry for their friends, or to be back at school.
I under stand that Covid-19 has scared a lot of people. I get it, I really do. I just don't see the point of trying to stop something that can't be stopped. It's like trying to make a dam with twigs. Is it going to hold? NOPE! We should of course keep washing our hands, and if it makes you feel better wear your mask. We WILL have to learn to live with it. Similar to the flu but with out a vaccine, it's not going away. Can children be taught to wash their hands often at school? YES. Can they understand to a degree why we have to sanitize our hands? Yes. Should schools open for a new year of school in the fall? YES. GOD YES! If they don't this mom with brake down and cry.
