The Post Harvest Problems no one tells you about!!
A post Harvest Blog.
You get told to thank a farmer and his wife every year around this time, and you should! Thanksgiving for most is post harvest supper to celebrate harvest being done. People tell you a lot of things that the men do, and women behind then do. The old line that says " Thank a farmer, because they give up supper at their dinner table so you can have dinner with your family" type of line. or "Behind every farmer is his wife feeding him, and helping him get harvest done, so you can eat that bread!' But what no else will tell you is that when the men come back from the field they must be reintegrated back into the house hold routine.
My husband has been home 2 full days with some work happening for a few hours each day as it should be. How ever he has up set the balance that i had when he was off doing harvest. Two days of being at home instead of in the combine and he is loosing his shit at every turn. Let me spell this out for you as i have experience being on the combine. When you are in the combine there are NO kids, There is no taking care of others, or meal planning. There is only get going and stay going in the hope that you get every thing off before mother nature besides you are done. You simply have to pack your lunch and kiss your kids bye for the day, and off you go with other adults to get into a quite combine. In my time on the combine i came to realize just how relaxing it can be. No one to talk back to you, or kids screaming at you because you are making them do something they don't like. The hum of the combine could have put me to sleep if i let it, but that isn't a good idea! So now that my husband is home and he doesn't have anymore combining to do, he is missing his quite cab with his music and radio stations. Instead he hears what i hear every day and he is in a constantly annoyed mood. Everything gets to him, for instance he couldn't find Hailey's (our 6 year old) shoe. He was getting very worked up about it and up set that she doesn't take care of her stuff. I walk down the stairs knowing how my kids think. I lift up a few things off the floor and there is the missing shoe!
Now i know all you people that drink coffee you supposedly need so many cups before anyone can talk to you or before you are ready to talk to others? Well my husband is like that, after getting kids on the bus i ask him "what has your panties in a bunch this morning?" to which he reply's "Well its constant! "I don't want to wear that shirt", or "I can't find my shoe." Hailey was fingering every piece of bread in that bag before picking 1 piece!" I then say "O relax they are on the bus now so we don't have worry anymore.....drink your coffee and calm down! is that your first cup of coffee?" "No it's my second." "o that explains a lot!" The point i an trying to make here is that he thinks his job is so hard, and don't get me wrong some days it is. But don't come over here thinking it's all cup cakes and rainbows, Because it's not! As a mom i am constantly being told things like "mom i have nothing to wear!" or "mom i don't like that lunch you packed there was no snacks in it!" What she really means is why are you making eat my sandwich when i just want to eat all the sugar! Or the walking through the drug store to get my prescription, while my 2 year old cries because he wants to push the cart so FUCK the cart i fireman carry him through the store to get my shit and get the hell out of dodge! While he says sitting in a combine is hard!
Harvest is done that i am grateful for, but the next hard part is getting this husband of mine back in sink with the rest of us. Getting him use to all the back talk, crying, screaming, and all the "I don't want to's" Wish me luck because this could take a while and a whole lot of fucken patience i might or might not have!
